How to install an eSIM on Android (Samsung and Google Pixel)
On Android you install the eSIM from the SIM settings. Menus vary slightly by brand; here are Samsung and Google Pixel, the most common. Do it on Wi-Fi before you travel.
Before you start
Check your phone supports eSIM: dial *#06# and see if an EID number appears. Samsung Galaxy S20 or later, many Z Flip and Z Fold models, and Google Pixel 3 or later support it. The phone must be unlocked.
Samsung Galaxy
- Settings → Connections → SIM manager.
- Tap «Add eSIM».
- Choose «Scan QR code from service provider» and scan it, or «Enter activation code» and paste the code.
- Name the line «PFB Away».
Google Pixel
- Settings → Network & internet → SIMs.
- Tap «Add SIM», then «Download a SIM instead?».
- Scan the QR or choose to enter it manually and paste the activation code.
- Give the line a name so you can recognise it.
When you land
- In SIM manager (Samsung) or Network & internet (Pixel), choose the eSIM for mobile data.
- Open the eSIM line and turn on «Roaming» or «Data roaming».
- If it doesn't connect within a couple of minutes, turn airplane mode on and off.
- Check that the line's APN is «globaldata» (Access Point Names).
FAQ
Does it work on any Android?
Only on unlocked phones with eSIM. The *#06# trick is the quickest way to find out.
What if the phone asks for the details separately?
Your account shows the SM-DP+ address and the activation code: type them where it asks.
